I would not be surprised at all to see the exploitation of B’s antimicrobial properties in the future. It is not without precedent for a compound to exhibit both anti-inflammatory AND antimicrobial properties. Consider tetracyclines, whose anti-inflammatory properties were known early in their development in the mid 40’s and 50’s. Doxycycline, the most used of this family, exhibits both anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. The difference appears to be dose dependent, with lower dose better at anti-inflammation likely due to modulation of cytokine gene expression and protease activity. The higher dose more effective as an antimicrobial. This relationship, whether applicable to B, may not be known, but has importance in the application, for example in COPD exacerbations and hidradenitis suppurativa, which both may include inflammatory and microbial etiologies
