Dana Milbank at the Washington Post goes there: 'Mitch McConnell is a Russian asset'

Can hardly wait for the lame attempts to defend Mitch. Let's see if I can help cut to the chase....

1. But, but, Hillary.

2. Socialism!!

3. Steele dossier.

S'all I got.

We’ve seen plenty of media malfeasance in the form of propaganda by shallowness and normalization, enough that history might see the corporate media as complicit with Trumpism.

But Dana Milbank of the Washington Post got it right.

Mitch McConnell is a Russian asset .

This doesn’t mean he’s a spy, but neither is it a flip accusation. Russia attacked our country in 2016. It is attacking us today. Its attacks will intensify in 2020.

Yet each time we try to raise our defenses to repel the attack, McConnell, the Senate majority leader, blocks us from defending ourselves.

Let’s call this what it is: unpatriotic. The Kentucky Republican is, arguably more than any other American, doing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s bidding .

Yes, arguably even more than Individual-1, at this point. The orange menace isn’t blocking every piece of legislation designed to protect American electoral security that comes his way. That’s the Turtle’s department.

The column lists them all off:

legislation requiring presidential campaigns to report to the FBI any offers of assistance from agents of foreign governments

a bill that would require campaigns to report to the FBI contributions by foreign nationals.

bipartisan legislation protecting lawmakers from foreign cyberattacks
the Securing America’s Federal Elections Act, passed by the House, directing $600 million in election assistance to states and requiring backup paper ballots

a bipartisan bill requiring Facebook, Google and other Internet companies to disclose purchasers of political ads, to identify foreign influence

a bipartisan bill to ease cooperation between state election officials and federal intelligence agencies

a bipartisan bill imposing sanctions on any entity that attacks a U.S. election

A bipartisan bill with severe new sanctions on Russia for its cybercrimes

There’s only one reason why one person would sabotage every single legislative attempt to safeguard American democracy. He’s against it.

He’s on Putin’s side. He does not want American elections safe from interference. He wants Putin’s IT gang to cause as much damage as they did in 2016 or worse. He’s on track not only with the Putin plan to interfere with elections, but to erode Americans’ trust in the electoral process. He’s anti-democracy. What does that make a person pro?

Milbank doesn’t use the words “treason” or “traitor,” but it’s there between the lines. A Russian asset actively weakening American democracy is a traitor.

It’s good to see a columnist of national repute in one of the nation’s papers of record recognizing it. The Overton Window just got a hoof in the right direction. Let’s hope other media outlets chime in and move it more thoroughly and permanently.

Baffled as to why Republicans sell out their supposed principles to collectively cover up Trump’s betrayal of his nation? Steve Silberman perhaps has the answer:

Steve Silberman @stevesilberman

Exactly this. One reason the GOP stays in lockstep to keep the lid on Trump's treason is that if the flag-waving "America First!" base ever realizes they've been punked, suckered, conned, duped by Mitch McConnell to do Putin's bidding, they will freak out.

Opinion | Mitch McConnell is a Russian asset
By blocking election security bill after bill, he is aiding and abetting Putin’s dismantling of Americans’ self-governance.

Freak out, and unleash their wrath at the polls. Columns like this are steps towards waking them up.
