One other thing that may not be relevant. I don't believe Dr. Pestell completed his post medical school training (residency and fellowship) in the US. If so, he would not be a US board certified oncologist. This is common in the pharmaceutical industry with many foreign trained MDs having executive and administrative roles. This is also often seen in research and sometimes in academia. The IRB issues that were claimed, could this have been an issue? i.e. fear of litigation if a patient has an SAE. Since Christonifelli and others are involved, I don't think this would be an issue.
