For instance, bisphenol fluorene can be reacted with organic acid dihalides such as isophthaloyl chloride and tere- phthaloyl chloride to manufacture polyester resins or it can also be reacted with phosgene to manufacture polycarbonate resins. Polycondensation products obtained from bisphenol fluorene have excellent heat & humidity resistance, and dielectric & mechanical properties, thus making them useful as insulators for electrical conductors, films, high temperature coatings and motor slot liners.

Bisphenol fluorene possesses high rigidity but their toughness is poor. Therefore, bisphenol fluorene needs to be modified when being used. Occasionally, they are mixed with general purpose epoxy resin to modify their toughness. Several methods are used to recover and purify the crude bisphenol fluorene from the reaction mixture. However, these recovery and purification processes generate huge amount of aqueous waste and contain a low concentration of phenol. These aqueous wastes are environmentally harmful and the phenol should be recovered from aqueous waste before disposal or the waste must be destroyed. Therefore, these processes result in high waste disposal costs.
