“I have spent the last two years of my life developing a understanding of why I saw the results of an alternative medical program I participated in. I quickly understood with positive results, that I didn’t know what I didn’t know. I didn’t know because I was never taught about the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The truth be told, I was already out of medical school 18 years before the ECS was discovered. Yet in still, the ECS is still not taught in our medical schools to our doctors.
Until December’s signing of the 2018 Farm Bill, this biological system was treated as a crime. In 1970, then President Nixon signed the Control Substance Act, and made Cannabis Sativa L a Federal crime. This noose of restriction started to loosen after 44 year of prohibition with the passage of the 2014 Farm bill. This bill said that cannabis could be grown for research purposes then having less than .3% THC when tested in the field.
The medical use of cannabis got legs when California passed Proposition 215 in 1996, quickly rolled by , Oregon 1997, Washington 1998, Alaska and Maine 1999. So I was sitting on one of the fult lines here in Maine, as now 33 States have medical cannabis programs. However, don’t miss my point, the ECS still wasn’t being taught in our medical schools.
