Adding CBD to food or drinks is now temporarily prohibited in New York City.
“As of July 1, 2019, the Health Department is embargoing food and drink products that contain CBD — the products will have to be returned to the supplier or discarded,” the city’s health department said.
Beginning in October, establishments offering food or drinks containing CBD will receive violations, the department said. The violations may result in fines or hurt the establishments’ letter grades.
Once the FDA establishes a framework to regulate CBD products, New York’s position could change. Of course we know it WILL change.
“We think the ultimate outcome is that the FDA is going to permit CBD to be used as a dietary supplement or a food additive, but it will be regulated,” Miller said. “One possibility is that they’ll say that you’re only allowed to use a certain number of milligrams of CBD in a particular product.”
I agree 100% with limiting the mg/serving. The race to sell products by ever increasing dosages will get out of control if not regulated, and the whole industry could suffer a severe set back from the potential (or even likely) negative press that would follow if people consuming ludicrous amounts of CBD/day were to suffer ill effects like renal failure or something similar. We don't need that!!!
How healthy anything is comes down to well informed usage based on sound clinical research. I'm extremely comfortable with the CBD levels in our products, but it'll be great for all of us to have the playing field leveled by proper regulation
