On Saturday, Trump biographer Tim O'Brien took the opportunity to tweet an old quote from the president about his old friend Jeffrey Epstein, and it goes without saying that it's pretty awkward for the president.

In a tweet, O'Brien shared a quote that Trump had shared with the New York Magazine in 2002 for a profile on Epstein:

"I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."

Epstein, a wealthy hedge fund manager, was taken into federal custody, and is expected to appear in Manhattan federal court on Monday, law enforcement officials told the Associated Press.

One official said Epstein is accused of paying underage girls for massages, as well as molesting them at his homes in Florida and New York, reports Haaretz.

Epstein avoided federal criminal charges in 2007 and 2008 in a plea deal, on earlier accusations that he had molested underage girls. The widely criticised plea deal was negotiated by Trump's secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta when he was at a top federal prosecutor in Miami, reports the Huffington Post.

The deal allowed Epstein to plead guilty to lesser charges of soliciting and procuring a person under 18 for prostitution and, instead of a life sentence, he only got 13 months in jail.
