They sure do. You didn't profit Friday because the stock went up. Nor will you lose money today if she closes where she is, which is down. The value of the asset simply increases or decreases.
It's just like your house. The market value may go up or down, but until you SELL your house you don't make any money on it.
Do I need to go slower? I know this is a lot to take in. I'm concerned about you like you are about me.
