Omega is not the "global leader in commercial aerial refueling".
Airtanker is - providing the entire Royal Air Force capability under a Private Finance Initiative - using 14 x Voyager aircraft (A300 MRTT variant) - for 27 years from 2008 under a GBP 13 Billion ($16.25 Billion) contract.

Omega has had the chance to become #1 for 22 years since 1997 - and then #2 from 2008 - using stored DC-10s that it owns - but hasn't bothered - or couldn't afford - to convert them into KDC-10s tankers.
Omega did not lose because the US Navy were dissatisfied - they have provided a perfectly satisfactory service for many years against a requirement most probably reverse engineered to match what they could comfortably provide.
What I suspect happened is that $TMPS submitted a bid against a request for proposals against a requirement for more capability which it can meet at lower cost with its superior higher capacity Tristar fleet than Omerga can due to:
- less sorties per aircraft required
- more time on task per sortie
- more fuel offload capacity
- less take off / landing cycles
- hence reduced maintenance costs and lower operating cost
