Brazil Minerals, Inc. is engaged in the business of acquiring controlling positions or significant positions with roles in companies in Brazil in the minerals area or in industries related to minerals. The Company, through subsidiaries, outright or jointly owns approximately 11 mining concessions and over 15 other mineral rights in Brazil, for diamonds and gold. The Company, through subsidiaries, owns an alluvial diamond and gold processing and recovery plant, a sand processing and mortar plant, and several pieces of earth-moving capital equipment used for mining, as well as machines for sand processing and preparation of mortar. The Company has approximately 30 mineral rights.

The Company owns Mineracao Duas Barras Ltda. (MDB), a Brazilian producer and seller of polished and rough diamonds, gold bars, and industrial-use sand. MDB operates a mining concession with an alluvial processing plant for diamonds and gold in Latin America and has the Brazilian permit to export its production. MDB has a mining concession and another mineral right, for both diamonds and gold, in the Jequitinhonha River valley, state of Minas Gerais. The Company owns RST Recursos Minerais Ltda. (RST), a Brazilian company with approximately 10 mining concessions and over 12 other mineral rights for diamond and gold in the Jequitinhonha River valley. The Company owns Hercules Brasil Ltda. (HB), a Brazilian company with an operating plant and a line of three mortar products under the brand name Hercules. HB's plant is located approximately 30 miles from MDB's sand mine.
