Last year Salesforce acquired Rebel along with 4 other companies, plus another 5 this year. Rebel is an interesting one as what you can read below and probably experience as well, is email is boring. To younger generations, it's as outdated as mailing a letter.

If you read about Rebel, they have changed email to a certain degree and enhanced the experience. I can see it in my emails from home depot - "You recently bought Wheatland 3/4 in. x 10 ft. ...Tell us about it!"

You can rate a product and write a review right in the email. Home Depot said review went up 55% after they implemented it. I can see why. Who wants to click a link, be redirected to a website and then possibly have to log into it to write a review. Make it frictionless and more people will.

I could see Salesforce adding VERB video technology to take emails to another level. I could see one of VERB's partners buying them a year or two down the road to have the technology exclusively.

Salesforce picks up interactive email startup Rebel

"In addition to processing payments, companies can use Rebel to create emails that let users take surveys, book appointments and leave reviews among other actions. The startup provides a choice between accessing its features via a visual message editor or an application programming interface."

SALESFORCE ACQUISITION OF REBEL HINTS AT LARGER PLAY TO REINVENT EMAIL MARKETING

"The idea of email being a direct communication channel is very tired," says Shar VanBoskirk, VP and principal analyst at Forrester. "We are in the beginning of improving email as a medium so it can have immersive experiences that's designed just for you and the brand."
