I'm not arguing that fact, but I'm fairly sure the company will make that offer to someone that has purchased a box of strips already, or will include the meter with a box (or 2) of strips as opposed to sending 5 million meters out to someone that claims they have a OneTouch meter. If packaged properly, the cost of the meter will be offset by the revenue generated from the strips on the initial purchase - pretty easy marketing approach.
Arguing over the company having enough money to do that is a waste of time.
