Talking with these gentlemen was an honor, for all had gone thru the worst one could face in combat, namely overwhelming odds, freezing weather, lack of supplies, having to carry all your wounded or dead with you, and the belief you were never going to make it out alive.
We always talk about our war dead "giving all". IMO ALL combat participants gave their all, it was just that some were asked to pay a greater price than those lucky enough to come back alive.
