Security Biometrics, Inc. Subsidiary eMedRx, Forms Exclusive Strategic Alliance With Univec
Business Wire - February 23, 2004 09:15
BALTIMORE & NEW YORK, Feb 23, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Security Biometrics, Inc. (OTCBB: SBTI), a leader in biometric signature authentication solutions powered by Penflow(TM), today announced its subsidiary -eMedRx(TM) Inc, (USA), has formed a strategic alliance with Physician and Pharmaceutical Services (PPSI), a division of Univec, Inc. (OTCBB: UNVC).
This alliance offers the industry's first practical application of electronic medical prescriptions geared to eliminate fraudulent Rx's as well as medical errors due to interpretation of physician's handwriting. This increased level of scrutiny offers the prescribing physician assurances that the proper medications are being dispensed to patients and allows the patient a short duration medication to test for side effects and potential allergies. The eMedRx(TM) solution is the first system that provides an actual electronic copy of the physician's signature that can be authenticated and transmitted using advanced encryption techniques.
Jeff D. Maynard, President and CEO of eMedRx(TM), stated, "We are pleased to form this alliance with PPSI to create an added solution for our safe and secure electronic prescribing system. PPSI's StarterScript(TM) sample voucher system will provide our users a flexible solution to give patients a trial size for a designated quantity of medication. The voucher for the patient's trial supply is accompanied by a prescription and can be redeemed at any of the nearly 55,000 retail pharmacies utilizing the PPSI adjudication system. The voucher can be printed out using the Brother MW printer or can be sent directly to the pharmacy and will incorporate an "authenticated signature" using the eMedRx(TM) Penflow(TM) solution. A similar program will be implemented in Canada."
The eMedRx(TM) electronic medical prescription will reduce prescription errors and allow physicians to transmit legible, safe and secure prescriptions. The additional security provided by the eMedRx(TM) technology using advanced encryption techniques, will capture the physician's biometric signature for the protection of the patient's privacy and provide a secure authenticated transmission to the pharmacist.
ABOUT Univec
Founded in 1992, Univec is considered one of the leading innovators in the design and production of auto-disable safety syringes. Its patented safe syringes include the AD-Syringe (auto-disable) to prevent re-use of disposable syringes, and the Sliding-Sheath Syringe to prevent needle-stick injury to healthcare workers.
PPSI (PHYSICIAN AND PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES, INC.), a division of Univec, promotes and pays for pharmaceutical products though its network of pharmacies. PPSI eliminates the need for the pharmaceutical companies to distribute actual drug samples to physicians reducing potential liability for the physician, while maintaining clinical oversight and drug interaction checks for the patient.
ABOUT eMedRx and Security Biometrics Company
Electronic Medical Prescriptions "eMedRx(TM)," a Security Biometrics Company, was created to develop an electronic prescription system that offers security and privacy for physicians, pharmacies, and patients alike. In addition to offering an electronic prescribing system with signature authentication, eMedRx(TM) offers users the StarterScript (TM) and "at the point of dispensing" coupons that can be redeemed for discounts at participating drug stores or offer patients educational materials geared to increase compliance.
Security Biometrics Inc. (OTCBB: SBTI): The Company develops markets and distributes biometric signature authentication solutions powered by Penflow(TM), a system based on proprietary patents in which signatures are validated in a quick, non-invasive accurate manner. The Penflow(TM) authentication engine views the signing process as a series of movements performed in a continuous, consistent and sequential process. The Penflow(TM) algorithm allows signature authentication by monitoring human hand movements instead of the final image.
