I certainly think it is a possibility that anyone with tankers in the US will eventually get bought out by the Northrop / Airbus combo if the USAF goes part way down the route of contracting out the uncontested airspace part of the mission [training, AAR receiver pilot recertification, air defense alert for Continental USA, trials, foreign sales deliveries etc].
The USAF can then reduce the KC-46A buy accordingly and concentrates its military resources on the next 2 generations of tanker KC-Y and KC-Z [unmanned / stealthy for dealing with peer / near peer threats like China where air superiority cannot be gained on Day 1 bombing missions].
