LifeScan Names Brian Heald as its New Head of Prod

A good first product move by Platinum execs. Mr. Heald, a mid-level functionary within the industry, has a big job in front of him -- to turn around the development at a company where its only successful product developments despite the spending of hundreds of millions of dollars, occurred because J&J went out and acquired commercial products that became Lifescan's entire product line, dating back to February 2000. It is bad, bad, bad when a company's entire product development plan was based on products acquired and acquired, not developed. The "not invented here syndrome" runs very, very deep at Lifescan, which is a primary reason why Lifescan has lost its lofty #1 position in the field (they gave it away), but most importantly suffers greatly from lack of innovation. Mr. Heald will realize, if he hasn't already, if it wasn't brought to his attention during his interviews, that he can gain space and breathing room by adding DECN's curve tweaker.
