From the Costco site: Costco and its affiliates do not sell vehicles or negotiate individual transactions. A participation fee has been paid by the participating dealers. All new vehicles arrange for sale are subject to availability and price prearranged with the participating franchised dealer.
Below is my partial list of dealer groups that I compiled directly from their websites; less than two weeks old. Largest dealer groups first, number of dealerships, states in, headquarters. I didn’t bother with revs or cars sold because there were too many conflicting numbers. Besides, Berman usually say top ten or so, or more than x number of dealerships, or geographic location. I kept it simple.
AutoNation – 360 - 16 states - Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Lithia Motors – 182 - 18 states – Medford, Oregon
Penske Automotive – 176 - 19 states, also 103 foreign dealerships - Bloomfield Hills, Michigan
Group 1 Automotive – 117 - 15 states, also 58 foreign dealerships – Houston, Texas
Sonic Automotive – 112 - 14 states – Charlotte, North Carolina
Hendrick Automotive Group – 97 - 14 states – Charlotte, North Carolina
Asbury Automotive Group – 81 - 10 states – Duluth, Georgia
