jrt03, in my opinion, there are far too many small players in the hemp/cannabis industry. As we move closer to legalization, companies will need to establish brand recognition for their products, and that will require consolidation. This is the phase we are in right now. If history repeats itself, the first movers in an industry seldom remain the industry leaders. The Canadian companies do have an advantage right now, and the money they raised does provide them with the ability to consolidate faster than most others, but America is coming on strong. At present, companies must operate on a state by state basis. Soon, you will see companies operating nationally. At that point, I predict the U.S. based companies will out-shine all others. There simply is no other market as large as ours, and U.S. companies have the home court advantage. At that point distribution and logistics will rule the day, and I place my bet on any company that can handle that end of the operation.
