Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) said Wednesday on "America's Newsroom" that it would be "disgusting" if top officials at the Justice Department "acted on their political beliefs" when it came to crucial decisions on whether to pursue charges against Hillary Clinton in 2016 over her use of a private email server.
Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) alleged Tuesday in a social media post that former FBI lawyer Lisa Page admitted during closed-door questioning that "the FBI was ordered by the Obama DOJ not to consider charging Hillary Clinton for gross negligence in the handling of classified information."

Page's testimony was perhaps the most salient evidence yet that the Justice Department improperly interfered with the FBI's supposedly independent conclusions on Clinton's criminal culpability, Ratcliffe alleged.
"So let me if I can, I know I’m testing your memory," Ratcliffe began as he questioned Page under oath, according to a transcript excerpt he posted on Twitter. "But when you say advice you got from the Department, you’re making it sound like it was the Department that told you: You’re not going to charge gross negligence because we’re the prosecutors and we’re telling you we’re not going to —"
Page interrupted: "That is correct," as Ratcliffe finished his sentence, " -- bring a case based on that."'
In July 2016, then-FBI Director James Comey said the investigation was done "honestly, competently and independently" and no decisions were based on outside influence. He explained that FBI investigators could not find evidence of criminal intent on the part of Clinton for using the private email system while she served as secretary of state.
Kennedy said he's not sure what the truth is on the matter, but it must be investigated to find out if a handful of "anti-Trump" individuals were acting based on politics.
He said he hopes Special Counsel Robert Mueller is looking into these matters and if not, then Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham should launch a probe.
"We've got to lance this boil. It's OK to have political beliefs. This is America, but if you work for the FBI or Justice Department, you cannot act on them," said Kennedy, who also lashed out at former FBI deputy Andrew McCabe.
"He acts like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. This guy is trying to sell a book. Everybody forgets he was fired for lying to the FBI and getting involved in politics. ... These people have hurt, badly, the premier law enforcement agency in all of human history," he said, adding that his criticism does not apply to 95 percent of FBI and DOJ employees.
