Group of Congressmen “Preparing Criminal Referr

(Mar. 6, 2019) — On Wednesday night’s “Hannity” show, House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes said that a number of congressmen, presumably fellow Republicans, are “preparing criminal referrals” to be submitted to Attorney General William P. Barr.
While reminding host Sean Hannity that Trump former personal attorney Michael Cohen testified to the committee Wednesday morning, his fourth time on Capitol Hill in eight days, Nunes contended, amid the Special Counsel “Russia collusion” investigation’s expected imminent conclusion and the announcement by committee chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) of plans to expand “investigations” into President Trump’s financial dealings both before and after he won the White House, “it’s like Groundhog Day.”
Nunes’s reference was to the 1993 movie in which “A weather man is reluctantly sent to cover a story about a weather forecasting “rat” (as he calls it). This is his fourth year on the story, and he makes no effort to hide his frustration. On awaking the ‘following’ day he discovers that it’s Groundhog Day again, and again, and again. First he uses this to his advantage, then comes the realisation that he is doomed to spend the rest of eternity in the same place, seeing the same people do the same thing EVERY day,” according to a summary at IMDB.
Committee Republicans reportedly continue to find Cohen’s credibility doubtful, while Democrats believe he “cooperated fully” and provided requested documents, according to a report at The Hill. Last August, Cohen pleaded “guilty” to lying to Congress, participating in allegedly illegal campaign-finance payments on Trump’s behalf, bank fraud and tax evasion for which he will begin serving a three-year prison sentence on May 6.
“We are preparing a criminal referral that we will present to the attorney general at the appropriate time,” Nunes told Hannity. “For?” Hannity asked, to which Nunes responded, “For many crimes; the obvious ones that you know about would be lying to Congress, but we will also be looking at FISA abuse and all the other matters that we’ve been looking into…”
As he has previously, Nunes was referring to perhaps a dozen individuals who testified to the committee in 2017 and 2018 as part of its probe into whether or not anyone in the Trump campaign coordinated with Russian operatives to win the election over Democrat Hillary Clinton.
Prior to January 3, when the new Congress was sworn in, Nunes chaired the committee, announcing last spring that no evidence of “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia was identified, a key line of investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller for nearly two years.
Nunes said that “the only collusion occurred between the Democrats and the Russians. ”
In response to Hannity’s question as to the timing of the criminal referrals, Nunes said, “We’re probably going to be prepared in the next two, three, four weeks.”
“Finally things are happening,” Hannity responded, punctuating the segment at 9:54 p.m. EST.
