Supplements for Lowering Cholesterol
One size does not fit all. I have familial hypocholesterolemia....liver cranks it out like a mfr; intractable to diet, weight control, exercise and supplements.
Trust me I tried. Put my doctor off on Statins, no improvement. Started 40 mg Atorvastatin in Dec of '13; first blood test 3 months in and all of the bad numbers fell off the edge of the table. It was that dramatic. They've stayed down.
You noticed that supplements that purport to lower cholesterol used to say 'lower cholesterol already in the normal range'; now they say that they 'support cardiovascular health'.
My readings came down further from using some of the supplements listed. Chiefly, Calamari capsules, Garlic, Endo Pro, turmeric, Natto-Kinase and Vitamin C 1000 with Lysine and Proline.
But if you've got my kind of heredity, don't kid yourself. There is no one answer.
There are many alternative treatments proposed for lowering cholesterol. But before you add any supplements or alternative therapies to your diet, talk to your health care provider. Few natural products have been proven in scientific studies to reduce cholesterol, but some might be helpful. But also, some supplements may interact with other medication you're taking or have the potential for dangerous side effects.
