Lithium-focused exploration company Standard Lithium Ltd. (TSX.V: SLL) (FRA: S5L) (OTCQX: STLHF) this morning announced its filing of a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office covering the company’s novel process for the recovery of lithium from brine. Per the update, a concurrent application was also filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (“PCT”), extending Standard Lithium’s entitlement to seek patent protection for this invention in member states to the PCT. A lithium extraction mini-pilot plant utilizing Standard Lithium’s proprietary process has demonstrated that lithium can be selectively extracted from raw brine without pre-treatment, can be converted into a concentrated and substantially purified lithium chloride solution and can be continuously regenerated and recycled to the extraction stage, allowing for overall lithium extraction efficiencies exceeding 90 percent. Standard Lithium notes that the patent applications announced as part of this morning’s update claim priority out of the company’s previously filed U.S. provisional application.
