No, that's totally wrong, you eat raw marijuana (flower) and you get high, the only reason you heat it is to extract it from the plant to use it in other things.
Marijuana is not psychedelic either (leafs will get you high, but you need to smoke/eat a ton of them), however, its flower is, that's where the most of CBD and THC is, plus a lot of different cannabinoids, flower is the most potent and most Cannabinoid rich part of the whole Marijuana plant.
That's why, the snake oil of Hemp CBD is just that, snake oil, since Hemp has no flower thus, it's medicinal properties are bullshit to the insignificant value of CBD it has, hence, noone is going to seriously look into Hemp as a source for cannabinoids, but all the snake oil salesmen promising healing properties, don't buy that bullshit.
Marijuana Flower, depending on the strain, vegetative period and flowering period have huge bearing on the potency of the flower. When you harvest it and touch it with bare hands, this alone will seep through your skin and get you high too, don't buy into anyone telling you that you have to smoke it to get high. Why I know? From first hand experience.
The flower, when harvested, is sticky, like if you were touching some gluish substance and it stays on your hands if you touch it, that's why flowers are handled over gloves. The sticky part, is the most potent part, they call it "Kief or Keef" these are cannabis crystals
