1. Someone who bought high, and is now holding baggage. In their mind, the stock is done, and they attempt to unload their baggage on unsuspecting rubes by making unsubstantiated, or even outright false statements and claims. Even going so far as to talk about how they are buying more, all the while selling their bags at the highest price possible.
2. This one is even worse. This one attempts to front load as many shares as possible. Then, they actually try to create momentum by spreading falsehoods and misinformation. Sometimes this can be done with absolutely no knowledge on the part of the actual ticker in question. Even going so far as creating false pr's in extreme cases. Once the buying begins, and momentum builds, they dump all the shares they front loaded, at the highest price they can.
In both of these examples, they are attempting to sell their shares, to other people, knowing full well that it's likely to tank as soon as they stop pumping. That's what makes a very distinct differentiation between an optimist, and a pumper. Hell, I've got many reasons to be sour here, but for the most part I remain positive. Doesn't make me a pumper. If I started spewing things just to make the situation seem grand, while simultaneously dumping my holdings, that would make me a pumper.
