Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends" that he is prepared to sign a "heartbeat bill" that would ban abortions from the moment a physician detects the heartbeat of a baby.
Bryant said he is prepared to defend the bill against any legal challenges, adding that he is only doing "what medical science has proven."
"The heartbeat is the beginning of life... You can't take that life," he told Steve Doocy.
The bill would hold a doctor responsible if the restriction was violated, Bryant said, including possibly revoking medical licenses.
