A Venezuelan who escaped Venezuela in his teens has revealed the reality of the socialism and the Maduro regime and gave a warning to anyone supporting Alexandria Ocasio Cortez's Green New Deal backed by the Democrats.
Daniel Di Martino, who grew up in Venezuela before his family escaped when he was 16, said on “The Story with Martha MacCallum” that his family went from thriving in the upper middle class down to making a mere two dollars a day.
Di Martino recalls how life "fell apart" under the now-disputed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and former President Hugo Chavez.
“By the time I left Venezuela in 2016 we had a blackout every week -- and I was privileged,” Di Martino told Martha MacCallum.
He admits he sees similarities to what he experienced Venezuela and the rise of socialism in the United States. “I hear what I heard from the socialist regime in Venezuela, ‘everything is alright.’”
He continued, “People are starving in Venezuela because policies such as the one that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez [supported] in her Green New Deal, which in reality is just the ‘red new deal’ which is just a socialist wish list, would destroy the U.S. economy and lead us into the path of Venezuela.”
Trump spoke in Miami in front of a crowd comprised mostly of Venezuelan and Cuban Americans and urged military officials loyal to Maduro to abandon him and accept opposition leader Juan Guaido.
"We seek a peaceful transition of power, but all options are open," Trump said. In a USA op-ed, Di Martino described his family's ordeal in Venezuela. “I watched what was once one of the richest countries in Latin America gradually fall apart under the weight of big government,” Di Martino wrote. President Donald Trump recently mocked the Democrats' so-called Green New Deal initiative led by freshman Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (NY-14), which seeks to save the planet and ‘revolutionize’ the US economy.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has announced that the Senate will vote on Green New Deal, forcing Democratic 2020 hopefuls to officially go on the record regarding Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's radical socialism plan.
Democratic socialist Ocasio-Cortez's proposal was met with widespread ridicule when it was introduced last week. She made promises to eradicate fuel powered vehicles and air travel within ten years and giving those "unwilling to work" the opportunity to live for free off the taxpayer.
