Boca Raton, Feb. 14, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 17th Annual South Beach Symposium concluded on Sunday, February 10th at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel: marking almost two decades of the most comprehensive education surrounding the field of clinical & aesthetic dermatology. The four-day conference presented an agenda that helped clinicians remain clinically current in the most recently emerging hands-on protocols, technologies, procedures, and practice guidelines. Through the development of dynamic and interactive educational opportunities that reflected the most recent clinical research, the annual Masters of Pediatric Dermatology Symposium explored pediatric dermatologic topics: initially developed 28 years ago by Lawrence A. Schachner, MD to foster an exchange of information between clinicians interested in pediatric dermatology. In working to provide enhanced, more personalized care for a specific pediatric population, the Specialty Session represented both the second largest and second longest running meeting in the United States specifically dedicated to a comprehensive examination of pediatric dermatology. Additional Specialty Sessions included Superficial Radiation Therapy and Practice Management; Superficial Radiation Therapy spotlighted non-invasive treatments for non-melanoma skin cancers and keloids: specifically evaluating the applications of SRT, while Practice Management highlighted essential strategies specific to running effective and successful clinical dermatology practices, coupled with marketing techniques to spur practice growth.
General Session lectures focused on a range of topics in both clinical & aesthetic dermatology, with lectures ranging from “Innovations in Clinical Therapeutics” and “Aesthetic Innovations” to symposiums on skin cancer, acne, atopic dermatitis, the spectrum of eczema, and psoriasis. Special guest Barbara McAneny, MD, president of the American Medical Association, delivered a keynote lecture titled “Treatment of Melanoma & Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer: An Oncologist’s Perspective.” Moreover, with a specific concentration on live patient workshops, a series of sessions were dedicated to implementable and hands-on education. With several injectors and supplementary faculty commentators, attendees enjoyed a front-row seat to skilled patient demonstrations as panelists offered expert assessment reviews of evidence & research. To further the interactions between attendees and faculty members, Session Director and Planning Committee Member David J. Goldberg, MD, JD led an “Ask the Experts: Complications Roundtable Discussion:” extending a unique perspective of the economic, legal, and ethical issues of today’s health care & dermatology delivery systems through his legal background and expertise in health law.
Two newly developed specialty tracks debuted in 2019 at the South Beach Symposium, based on attendees’ specific requests, and both were highly successful and well-attended. The “Hair Restoration” track—spearheaded by Session Directors Glynis Ablon, MD & Matt Leavitt, DO—featured live demonstrations, an interactive panel discussion, and the latest updates in hair restoration and clinical treatments. Led by Andrew Heyman, MD, MHSA, a renowned expert in Integrative Medicine and Anti-Aging, “Anti-Aging & the Dermatologist” included topics such as the applications of hormones in dermatology, the significance of the microbiome in dermatology, peptide therapies, integrative dermatology, IV therapies, Regenerative Medicine, & PRP.
In addition to the extensive agenda, the conference featured an expansive and completely-sold out Exhibit Hall, with supplementary networking opportunities placed throughout the conference.
