Segment Analysis

On basis of touch screen type, they are segmented into a resistive, capacitive, surface acoustic wave, infrared. There is a variety of technologies available to the designer and it is very important to match the technology to the application for best performance and cost efficiency.

Resistive: This touch screen type is widely used in small-medium devices and mobile phones. The resistive touch screen type is cheap; also it has a low activation pressure and can be used with most pointing devices. The constraining factor of this type is that it reduces light transmission by about 25% and the plastic top layer is not scratch resistant.

Capacitive: This type of screen uses glass on the top layer and it is scratch resistant with excellent light transmission. Capacitive display uses static to sense the presence of a pointing device but not if it is insulating such as hand gloved. This type is the best choice for kiosk and ATP applications.

Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW): This screen type is the best choice for ATM applications. This uses sound waves to sense the presence of pointing device with high light transmission. The disadvantage of this screen type badly affected by surface contamination and has a limited operation with other pointing devices than human fingers.

Infrared: Infrared screen is cast over the display and position can be determined if the pointing device interrupts. The infrared screen can work with any screen type with zero activation pressure. It can be affected by an extreme level of contamination. In this screen type, it has excellent light transmission but a resolution is lower compared to other technologies.

Benefits Of Touch Screens In Industrial Applications

  • More Reliable
  • More Portable
  • Can be used in hazardous areas like mining or petro-chemical industries
  • Combined with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) for security tag
  • Less Space
  • Resistant to vandalism or heavy use
  • Simple Interface
  • Resistant to contamination

Automotive Segment Is Likely To Hold A Significant Share Of Industrial Touch Screen Display Market

The industrial touch screen display market for automotive application is growing at a rapid rate. Mainly market is dependent on the demand trends in the buyer’s preferences, progress towards developing autonomous vehicles, the automobile industry, and technological advancement in digital automotive cockpit electronics. Touch screen display plays a crucial role in making important driver assist functions accessible at a single-touch screen platform. Increasing concern regarding safety, comfort, and convenience in automobiles, especially in developed economies, is the factors boosting the market growth. Furthermore, in passenger vehicles use advanced infotainment systems, telematics, heads-up displays, gesture control systems, steering-mounted controls, and central controllers are done for luxury, safety, comfort and security benefits. Also, a government in various countries across the world is implementing regulations about vehicle safety and security.
