Speculation I've read is that Trump yelled at Whitaker to go out and say what he did. We can go all the way back to Ty Cobb's fearless prediction that the Mueller investigation would be over in a matter of weeks, over a year and a half ago.
Remember, Mueller extended the grand jury empaneling for another six months.
If the Dems turn over Jr's testimony to Congress Mueller will get him on lying to Congress. I suspect he's already got him for lying about the 'Russian adoption' meeting.
