Southern Careers Institute Unveils New Waco Campus

WACO, Texas, Jan. 22, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Southern Careers Institute (SCI), a Texas-based career education provider, announced today its expansion with a new campus in Waco, Texas. This campus, the eighth SCI location in Texas, launches with its suite of medical programs to students, which includes Medical Assistant, Medical Billing and Coding Specialist and Medical Office Specialist. SCI Waco course enrollment is available to students starting today, with classes starting February 11, 2019.

The latest SCI campus introduces an array of education opportunities for individuals in the Waco area to enter the medical profession. SCI’s 30-54-week long career-based medical courses empower students with guidance on the latest medical industry practices and procedures in doctor’s offices, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, nursing homes and public health department facilities.

“We are proud to expand SCI to Waco at a time when entry-level medical professionals are in high-demand in the area,” said Jacob Mayhew, CEO of SCI. “Our medical-based programs provide students with the resources to acquire the skillset to assist doctors, work with nurses and care for patients in their new medical career.”

The curricula are devised for aspiring medical professionals to receive career-based instruction and interactive training. Descriptions of the programs offered at SCI Waco are:

Medical Assistant

  • The Medical Assistant program trains students to acquire skills and proficiency in medical office procedures and laboratory techniques. The course instructs students in areas, which include: anatomy, physiology, pathology, the body systems, medical front office procedures, venipuncture, laboratory diagnostic produces and electrocardiography.

Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

  • The Medical Billing and Coding program teaches students skills such as: data collection, diagnostic and procedural coding, insurance claim completion and submission and updating insurance rules and regulations.

Medical Office Specialist

  • The Medical Office Specialist program prepares students with the skillset and knowledge to conduct medical office administration procedures for a medical practice. The subjects taught for the duration of the course include: office procedures, introductory billing and collections, records management, patient data collection and business communication techniques.

“As an added benefit, we offer an externship to our students,” says Roy Hawkins, Campus Director of SCI Waco. “The externships enable students to gain first-hand experience with our local partners in the medical field, and better prepare them to enter the workforce post-graduation.”

SCI’s programs prepare graduates to sit for multiple medical certifications in subject matters taught in their enrolled programs. Further, SCI’s career services team assists graduates in their search for a job to begin their new career in the medical industry.
