That Would Require Citizenship Test for HS Graduation
A state senator in Indiana has proposed a bill that would require students to pass a 100-question citizenship test in order to graduate from public high schools in the state.
Senate Bill 132, proposed by Sen. Dennis Kruse (R), would implement the same exam taken by immigrants looking to become U.S. citizens.
"There is a deficiency in government and civics knowledge, and it's getting worse," said Kruse, according to The Journal Gazette.
Former New York Congresswoman Nan Hayworth (R) said Saturday on Fox & Friends that the bill is a great idea.
"For the future of our great representative Democracy, the number one thing that we really need to do is have our citizens understand what the Constitution has given us," she said.

The Gazette reported that Kruse put forward the same bill in 2015, but it was defeated.
Hayworth said that civics education has dropped in America and it's related to the push of socialism.
"[Students] don't understand what it means to have government control every aspect of our lives," she said.
The Statehouse File reported that Ken Folks, chief of governmental affairs for Indiana's Department of Education, is against the proposed bill.
"The standards require the students to learn the material at a greater depth of knowledge than just a test that asks for memorization," Folks said.
Hayworth said that it's "crucial" for students to understand the limited responsibilities of federal and state governments.
"If we fail to understand it, we are doomed to [a] downward spiral," she said.
