Pompeo 'Wanted to Draw Contrast'
With Obama in New Cairo Speech
< >
Gen. Jack Keane [Ret.] said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo wanted to "clearly... draw the contrast" between the Trump administration and President Obama during his speech in Cairo this week.
Pompeo told the Egyptians that though "another American stood before you" and spoke apologetically about America and that radical Islamism "did not stem from an ideology," that time has come to an end.
"[Obama] told you that 9/11 led my country to abandon its ideals," Pompeo said.

"The good news is this: the age of self-inflicted American shame is over. Now comes the 'real' new beginning," Pompeo added. Obama's 2009 speech discussed at length a "new beginning."
Keane said Pompeo tried to eradicate Obama's ideal vision and the "timidity" he expressed.
"[Pompeo] is positioning the U.S. as a force for good," he said.
