What’s the current status of ProElite?
Things have been very quiet as of late with the new incarnation of ProElite MMA. After resurfacing in August of 2011, the promotion was able to put on a second show in November of that year, and a third in January of 2012, but has gone silent since, leading critics to ponder the future of the promotion.
With the folding of Dream this week (ProElite had signed a partnership with them earlier this year), the general though amongst ProElite fans and investors was that perhaps a similar fate awaited them.
Not true though, ProElite Head of Fight Operations T. Jay Thompson told 8CN today. According to Thompson , “It's a little difficult as it’s a public company but I can tell you I am still employed by the company. There is some reorganization going on and we will continue building on our first three shows. What I can't give you unfortunately at the moment is an exact date. Though I will tell you I am excited with what I'm hearing behind the scenes of what the future has in store. In short, thank you to all the true MMA fans and the ProElite family of fighters who have been patient as we go through this reorganization. If I have my way we will more than make it up to all of you.”
Throughout its first three shows, ProElite put together an exciting roster that included Andrei Arlovski, Tim Sylvia, Kendall Grove, Ikuhisa Minowa, Sara McMann, Richard Odoms, Ryan Martinez, Jake Heun, Andreas Kraniotakes, Travis Fulton, Evan Cutts, Reagan Penn, and Mark Ellis. A TV deal with HDNet (with rumors of a major network to follow) and the planned partnership with Dream had led many to believe that ProElite would regain its standing as the number 2 promotion behind the UFC. According to Thompson, that is still possible but will take some time.
Here’s hoping that ProElite and parent company Stratus Media Group can get things back on track and bring ProElite 4 to fight fans soon. More to follow here on 8CN….
