I remember the original, had to be back in the 1960's. Seeds from space land and they grew into trees real quick that attacked people, etc. The hero was on a light house rock and one grew there and sprayed the tree with salt water and saved the day with salt water. As i remember the closing line was like "Man evolved from the sea and was saved by the sea" or such.

I just glanced at the beginning of the movie and it mentions Venus Fly Traps 30 seconds into the movie.
