Tucker Carlson reacted to a violent tweet by a New York State senator, who only weeks prior appeared on "Tucker Carlson Tonight" to defend his bill that would allow the state police to access social media accounts of residents who apply for gun permits.
As Fox News Insider reported at the time:
New York State Sen. Kevin Parker's bill would allow the New York State Police to investigate "for certain posts and/or searches over a period of 1-3 years prior to the approval of such application or renewal."
He said on Tuesday that his bill is all about making New York safer and wouldn't infringe on the rights of the state's residents.
"This law simply says, let's look at what people are putting out on social media as part of a set of criteria we're using to determine who gets handguns," he said.
Parker, a Brooklyn Democrat, tweeted "kill yourself" to a NYSGOP aide who apparently photographed his officially placarded vehicle parked illegally in a bicycle lane in New York City.
Republican press aide Candice Giove tweeted that Parker's Senate placard was posted on a vehicle parked on Second Avenue in Turtle Bay, Manhattan.
Giove noted the license plate, however, didn't match the placard as well.
"The placard is assigned to @SenatorParker. However, the license plate on the placard does not match the vehicle. So he either used it in another car or gave it to someone else, both of which are not permitted," Giove tweeted.
"Kill yourself," Parker's official State Senate Twitter account responded to the tweet.
Carlson said Parker later apologized on Twitter and donated to a suicide prevention organization.
Carlson asked aloud whether Parker "learned the lesson embedded in his own actions."
He said Parker's office did not respond to an interview request, and said that Parker should respond as to whether he should have the power to "police thought crimes on Twitter" despite his own violent tweet.
Carlson also considered whether Parker should be able to own a gun under his own parameters -- adding that Parker's bill is still making its way through the legislature.

According to the Albany Times-Union, Parker also further criticized Giove as a "Twitter troll" and attacked her position as a member of the state GOP conference who is "on the wrong side of history" on every issue.
State Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins of Yonkers, the leader of the new Democratic majority in the Albany Senate said that she was "disappointed" in Parker and was happy to hear he apologized to Giove.
Meanwhile, outgoing Senate Leader John Flanagan, a Republican representing Smithtown and Huntington, blasted Parker.
"I am angry and disappointed [he] would go after one of my employees in this way," he said, the Times-Union reported.
