HOW MUCH WILL THIS RESCUE AND HOSPITALIZATION COST TAXPAYERS??
A Honduran woman was airlifted out of a canyon by Border Patrol after falling into a canyon near Otay Mountain Wednesday.
Officials said the 25-year-old was going in and out of consciousness as she received medical aid from rescue crews and was flown to the hospital for treatment. Both she and a companion, a man from Honduras, were suspected of entering the country illegally, according to Border Patrol.
Officials said the search started around 6 a.m. after agents arrested the man and he told them a woman he was traveling with had fallen off a rock and down a steep canyon a few hours earlier. The man said he climbed down to the woman and found that she was conscious but badly injured.
Members of the Border Patrol’s Air and Marine Operations unit spotted the woman in the canyon from a helicopter and guided agents to her location. Rescue workers on the ground helped hoist her into a Blackhawk helicopter around 10 a.m. She was transferred to another aircraft at Brown Field and rushed to the hospital.
