Hey Gimli, I'm so old I do know what a 'cake walk' is, or rather was.
At some public event like a fair, people entered the contest, and then walked around an area while music played (like musical chairs). When the music stopped you won a cake if you were standing on the winning number.
And banks got new customers by giving away a toaster!
