Back in late 2010, I received a call from a person that I had worked with a few years earlier asking about a possible investment. He had received a call from a long time friend who worked for a company called Clean Diesel Technologies. The long time friend told the person I knew that employees were hearing rumors about a possible large contract and some large meetings had been ongoing. I researched the company a bit and saw a long term stable company that had no particularly good or bad information that I could locate. I told my friend about general risk, etc. and that I would probably buy some CDTI stock myself and could lose money, etc. and that he should only invest what he could lose, etc. and that he should have his friend call him with any changes seen. I bought 5000 shares at just under a dollar. A few weeks later he called me again and said he had been told that more meetings had happened and rumors were floating around. I bought 5000 more shares again still at about a dollar. RUMORS of a possible deal for CDTI to supply materials for a large emissions contract caused the stock to rise from around a dollar in late September 2010 to well into double digits in October 2010. I sold most just under $10 and the rest when it broke above that level. I left money on the table as it rose well above that level and thought I had made a mistake in selling early. A short time later the hopes for the contract diminished as apparently a larger competitor got the contract. The price fell back as quickly as it rose but the company got the benefit of exposure and operations did improve.
Two morals of the story-1)I don't know anything and was just lucky to be told about a possible happening but apparently neither did people with close contact with the company accurately know what would happen (who could have better information than those with close contact to any company?) and 2)the market didn't and never does know what will happen-it only reacts to what happens.
No one on this or any other message board KNEW what would happen in the above instance and they don't KNOW today. Research, plan, and risk what you can. Things can change in an instant. All anyone can be relatively sure of is that something should be known soon. I'm in with IPIX and believe it will happen. Hoping it works out well for everyone.
