Combine the infrared with visible light records for QDSC of around 12%, and they are at over 20% effective energy conversion. I say this considering that today's silicon based solar cells are not known for infrared conversion.
I know very little of actual solar cell architecture, but I would think with quantum dots, they could combine a quantum dot that absorbs visible light with one that absorb infrared (in separate layered sheets, possibly?) and have a solar cell that is high enough in energy conversion to make it cost effective.
