Trey Gowdy: GOP has already probed Ivanka’s emails more than DEMS probed Benghazi

Double Standard: Retiring Rep. Trey Gowdy, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, swatted away Democrat “gotchas” regarding first daughter Ivanka Trump’s brief use of private email for some government business, noting that Republicans have already looked deeper into the issue than they did regarding the 2012 Benghazi attack.
“Congress has a responsibility to make sure that the records and the Presidential Records Act is complied with, and that is true no matter who the person is, whether it’s Secretary [of State Hillary] Clinton or whether it’s Tom Perez or whether it’s Ivanka Trump,” he told CBS News‘ “Face the Nation.”
“So we’ve taken steps, we’ve done more in the last week than some of my House Democrat colleagues did the entire time we were looking into Benghazi,” he said. “So I’m at peace with what we’ve done, but we need the information and we need it quickly.”
Gowdy, a Republican from South Carolina, also noted he’s already written the White House seeking information regarding Ivanka Trump’s use of a private email account in her role as presidential adviser to her father. He also said he’s talked with her attorney as well as his committee’s ranking Democratic member, Rep. Elijah Cummings.
He also dismissed a report that he previously sought to have Clinton prosecuted over her use of a private, unsecured email server over which she trafficked in classified information — a felony.
“There are two separate issues: The divulging of classified information is a crime. Using personal email upon which to conduct public business is not a crime,” he said. “You’re not supposed to do it. It’s not best practices.”
As such, “I’ve never called for Hillary Clinton to be prosecuted and I couldn’t possibly have done it for using private email because it’s not a crime.”
Even a shoddy FBI investigation of Clinton’s email use determined that she had indeed sent classified information over her server, but of course, she was famously exonerated by then-FBI Director James Comey who was certain he’d be working for her, and not POTUS Trump, just a few short months later.
As for the president, he said of his daughter’s email use, “There was no anything, just innocent emails,” adding that there were “no classified emails. It’s another fake news story.”
Regarding the Left-wing mainstream media’s refusal to hold the Obama administration to account over its role in the Benghazi attack, who can forget this memorable Gowdy press conference?
