About View
View manufactures View Dynamic Glass, a new generation of dynamic glass windows that let in natural light and views and enhance mental and physical wellbeing by significantly reducing headaches, eyestrain and drowsiness. In addition, View’s windows reduce glare and heat, improving the energy efficiency of buildings by up to 20 percent. View’s windows are digital, connected, and can be controlled from anywhere, including your smart phone – no blinds or shades required.

Me:
This is an old concept where technology has caught up with the idea - in this case electrically controlling ions in glass to increase tinting. It is not the FF concept, but much simpler using metal oxides. QMC can make nanoscale, uniform metal oxides too, so this story is not yet finished. There is plenty of room for competition. Just imagine replacing every window in the world with software controlled tinted glass. It will probably first show up in new construction, which already has energy-saving dual pane (and maybe tinted?) glass, so the energy savings are not so dramatic.
Softbank's early news saying it would redirect its solar fund to another venture probably meant this View deal $1B tinted glass.
Metal oxides used here are a commodity, sold by the ton at cheap prices.
QD are more expensive but can do more. All the metal oxides do is tint the glass and save energy inside the building. QD in glass potentially can by photovoltaic and make electrical energy, while at the same time saving energy like the metal oxides. The Freschfield idea was to use them to make hydrogen and store it, but its easier to make PV electricity and use/store it.
