I practiced for a couple years spontaneous giving
Post# of 65629
20 to 50 dollars to a person ,,,,bent over a trash can,
or an old person in a nursing home, other shut ins, etc.
Told the nursing home people that the little bit of cash
came from children in the neighbor hood collecting cans.
Their eyes would light up with that white lie. $20 - $25.
One time late fall feeding a guy as much of my home made
stew as he could eat, gave him a pack of cigarettes, and my
winter coat. That guy cried, (bought a new coat then)
An aside there:
I was cohabiting with a nun with a lot of friends - my turn to cook.
She and I were hilarious:
She jumped up and down on my bed one morning early singing loud
"Rise and shine and give God the glory glory: I did that to her
a couple of days later - it wasn't funny to her
People started giving me money inc my mom to use.
I'd put something in a 2nd pocket every beer or coffee.
One guy retarded was being abused by his alcoholic mother.
She took his stipend - lunch money to the bars.
I gave him 25$ twice on the condition he spend it on food
and tell NO One. She was later shot/killed in the middle of the night
while asleep by her drunk friend thinking she was a mugger.
One learning moment:
I took a girlfriend's 12 year old to a neighborhood service center
with his mom and me to show charity in action (he had seen me do
the trash can thing) well uhhh, they would have to report the money
we wanted to give him to the government as income and pay taxes
on it. We left disgusted. I don't remember now where that cash went.
Anyway, retired I work pt time poorly paid for a .org
I believe in Santa Claus enough for those who can't even say it !!!
