First snowfall of the season hits New York City, causes slushy rush hour misery
Let it … slush.
A fresh batch of “wet snow” hit the city Thursday, backing up traffic, delaying flights and causing overall rush hour misery for thousands of commuters.
The National Weather Service said Thursday evening that the wintry mix was falling at a rate of two to three inches per hour in the tri-state area.
Gov. Cuomo urged New Yorkers to brace for slushy, icy commutes Thursday evening and Friday morning and recommended drivers slow their roll for safety due to poor road conditions.
"Early winter weather is moving through the state this week, and I urge New Yorkers to be prepared and to use caution when driving due to reduced visibility and possible black ice," he said. "We are watching these weather systems and stand ready to assist our local partners as needed."
