I love that. That is real. I am surprised he said that.
I started a company with 2 other guys with big backing and the conversation came up, should we buy Salesforce or do it ourselves. It wouldn't have taken much. This was the late '90's. We bought a lot of other companies.
As he said, Salesforce didin't raise any VC money.

This story sound a lot like my buddy Dan K who said he used to play the drums in a garage band for Styx.
And he said he did for Chicago.
We would humor him, laugh at him, but in all the years I've known him, he never told a lie.
