Canada became the largest country with a legal national marijuana marketplace as sales began October 17th2018 in Newfoundland.
Canada has had legal medical marijuana since 2001 and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government has spent two years working towards the goal of expanding that to include recreational marijuana. The goal is to better reflect society's changing opinion about marijuana and bring black market operators into a regulated system.
The Newfoundland marijuana stores were among at least 111 legal pot shops that opened across the nation of 37 million people last week, with many more to come, according to an Associated Press survey of the provinces.
In the days following legalization Canada has started to develop supply shortages, as happened in some U.S. states when legalization arrived.
No stores opened in Ontario, which includes Toronto. The most populous province is working on its regulations and doesn't expect stores until next spring.
International Endeavors Corporation (IDVV) is one of several companies that are positioning itself to take advantage of legalization in Canada. Beginning with its OGGL Project, the company has begun implementing its plan to enter the Canadian marketplace.
