According to the original post (as I remember it anyway) someone had asked Mark if he would sell his patent for some more modest amount, and he replied that he wouldn't sell it for less than 8 m. The bad news is that I don't think he meant it as a serious valuation, but rather just a reply meaning that the patent is worth way more than one might think. The good news is that even at the time the whole company would have been worth more than just the patent. The better news is that now the whole company includes lots of 'major, major' deals near finalization, more lawsuits in the courts, and BlockSafe!
I don't think Mark should be held to the seemingly offhand 8 m for the patent comment in a casual conversation, but I do think the whole company could have that buy-out valuation in a couple of years.
