The European Blockchain Partnership Finds Europe Getting Serious About Distributed Ledger Technology

"On April 10, 2018, 21 EU member states and Norway signed up to create the European Blockchain Partnership. Including the UK, France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Ireland, they committed themselves to "cooperate in the establishment of a European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) that will support the delivery of cross-border digital public services, with the highest standards of security and privacy."

Since April, a further five nations have joined the Partnership, with Italy becoming the latest to do so after it signed the Partnership's Declaration in September. As a member, it has committed itself to helping to identify, by the end of 2018, "an initial set of cross-border digital public sector services that could be deployed through the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure."

By bringing distributed ledger technology (DLT) to European infrastructure, the Partnership hopes to make cross-border services – such as those related to logistics and regulatory reporting – safer and more efficient. However, progress towards this goal has so far been slow and piecemeal, with the Partnership's members having had only three meetings since April. Nonetheless, it retains ambitious aims, with the European Commission telling Cointelegraph that it wants the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) to become an international "gold standard" for large-scale DLTs."

Ripple Strategist Praises XRP Liquidity Benefits for Banks, Looks to Digitize Inter-bank Payments

"Ripple’s (XRP) Global Head of Strategic Accounts, Marcus Treacher has said the company is looking to rework how banks move value between each other.

Treacher made the comment during an interview on the sidelines of the recent Citi Digital Money Symposium organized by Citi Bank.

Ripple is a digital asset and a real-time cross settlement platform created on an open-source internet protocol. Also, Ripple enables fast and secured cross-border remittances, which are almost free.

Treacher purports the fact that Ripple is making sure money transfer is changed.

Blockchain technology has the ability to change money transfer. Even though this technology hasn’t been adopted as it should be, due to the fact that it is still in its juvenile stage, but many people are beginning to acknowledge its ability to change the world.

During the interview, Treacher said:

“what we (Ripple) are trying to do is to re-work how banks move value between each other and we always work with banks. We have a strong partnership with the largest banks in the world which we are using to work with us to really build-out our solution to benefit the banks and Ripple.”

MoneyMatch Completed Its First Cross-Border Blockchain Transaction with Ripple

"Following MoneyMatch’s earlier announcement that they will be embracing Ripple’s blockchain to power their payments in April, the fintech startup has recently announced that they have successfully conducted their first ever live cross-border transaction out of Malaysia on the blockchain

According to a statement issued by MoneyMatch they have been working closely together with the Ripple engineering the past few months to be fully integrated into the RippleNet xVia platform.

In this transaction, MoneyMatch claimed to have helped a retail user convert MYR to EUR at a significantly lower cost than a bank’s traditional telegraphic transfer.

They also added that, they were able to successfully process the transaction within just several hours via the blockchain compared to the traditional SWIFT network used by the banks which would take a minimum of two days and often times longer.

With this first successful blockchain cross border transaction to Europe, MoneyMatch is gunning towards offering the best pricing and fastest speeds for international payments out to Europe.

Simultaneously they will also continue working with multiple other regulated partners in overseas jurisdictions who are also on the Ripple blockchain such as India, Thailand, USA and other such jurisdictions.

“We’re really proud to make this announcement today as we show clear evidence that a FinTech startup made wholly in Malaysia by young Malaysians is capable of integrating into the Ripple blockchain and performing a live legitimate international money transfer from Malaysia to Europe bringing blockchain innovation to the traditional Malaysian financial services industry.” said Adrian Yap, the CEO of MoneyMatch."

Twitter in Trouble, Again; Due To Non-Compliance With GDPR Guidelines!

"What are the dire straits a company has to face, due to non-compliance with GDPR? The wrath of Irish authorities! That’s what Twitter.Inc (NYSE: TWTR) has gotten itself in.

According to recent reports by Fortune, Irish authorities have pulled Twitter to a task, for not responding to a user request, which calls for non-compliance of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Apparently, Twitter was requested for more detailed information of what data it collects when users click an auto-shortened link in a tweet, by a researcher.

Initially, the sole purpose of link shortening tool was to save characters in a limited space provided for a tweet and was believed, to fight malware and spams as such. However, these services also posed significant risks when used in private messages.

On a quite blunt note, the social media company refused to comply with such request, leading to the intervention of European Privacy authorities. A prompt investigation is arrayed along, and is surely no good news for Twitter!"
