Chx, that is a tough question to answer. First, yo

Second, there are many applications including displays, IoT, sensors, Biomedical, lasers, and all sorts of thermo- and photovoltaics like solar.
So just as an example read my posts 10515 & 10516 on current large solar projects. Solterra, a wholly owned QMC subsidiary will make quantum dot solar cells someday. 1 gigawatt, $1 billion.
I have said QDSC could be made for 5x less than silicon solar panels and be profitable. I don't know what percent of a solar factory or deal we would get, but clearly it would take millions of kilos of QD for decades, and Solterra will probably be spun out with shares to stockholders. Those shares would be a bonus.
I decided to invest in QMC a long time ago because I realized I did not have the time, the inclination or the smarts to continuously beat the traders. I needed it to provide our retirement and to be something I could fully understand would be a long-term growth vehicle. One factor was I wanted a penny stock because expensive stocks would not provide retirement in the short term. I did not see the market going to the heights it has, or able to pick the amazons or apples. There are no guarantees.
QD were expensive in those days, $5000/kilo and up, by batch process. QMC did not have the continuous flow process for five years or so. The industry changed dropping Cadmium QD and forcing companies to start over. Competitors have not been able to make these new QD to the specifications, the cost, and the quantity industries need. QMC can, according to their PR. If you read the company update, the CEO admits it's takes longer to get commercial acceptance, but all preparations for rhat day seem to be in place and it is just a matter of time.
Now I am not selling this stock and I will let it ride. That's my decision, buy and hold. My retirement is banking on QMC success, and I have heard similar from other investors. In my case I believe I have done the DD to justify my faith.
Everything is a risk and we all decide our own tolerance for risk so decide for yourself what to invest based on your own DD, and not what others say.
