- Worked as a research & development engineer at MIT Lincoln Lab, Lexington, MA in the fields of surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) devices and integrated optic devices based on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) and semiconductors, establishing an internationally-recognized reputation in these fields.
- Won and was the principal investigator on several DOD and DOE SBIR & STTR contracts through IOCC, the contract R&D and consulting company that I founded in 1988.

Product Development Experience
- Founded and managed the Integrated Optics group at Crystal Technology Inc., Palo Alto, CA and introduced the first commercially-available optical modulators and optical switches based on LiNbO3 waveguide technology. Introduced the first commercially-available foundry service for LiNbO3- based integrated optic devices.
- Have assisted (through IOCC) several start-up companies in product-development activities, including product definition, product design, product fabrication and evaluation, and product marketing and sales in the optics, fiberoptic, and rf digital electronics areas.
- Have consulted for over 50 companies in the US, UK, Japan, Korea, and Germany.

- Project leader at MIT Lincoln Lab, managing three personnel and a $0.75M annual budget.
- Manager at Crystal Technology with 20-member group (all technical levels represented) and a $3M annual budget.
- Founded and was Director of the four-member Applications Engineering Group at New Focus, Inc. San Jose, CA.
- Served as VP of Engineering (as a consultant) for the start-up company, MicroPhotonix Integration, Phoenix, AZ .
