After he graduated from HS he left for the city and got a job in a factory. When he retired, he was the Supervisor in charge of Quality Control. I remember him telling me there were bringing in all those computers and it was time for him to get out of there.
He was the dad who took my sons hunting and fishing. Taught them gun safety and how to clean a fish. He helped them build a dog house in the rear yard.
When they turned 16 he taught them how to drive.
He was a super dad and grandfather. I don't think he ever thought about politics. He was a Democrat and a union man.
